    NMA PRESIDENT PAYS COURTESY VISIT TO GOV. SIMON LALONG OF PLATEAU STATE.


    The Governor of Plateau State, His Excellency, Rt Hon (Dr) Simon Bako Lalong has pledged an upward review on the implementation of CONMESS for Medical and Dental Practitioners in the State.

    He also promised to improve the healthcare delivery in te state through massive infrastructural development, provision of modern equipment and continuous training and retraining of health personnel in the state.

    The Governor also donated the sum of Ten million naira in support of the building of the NMA House in Abuja.

    The Governor made these and other commitments when The President of the Nigerian Medical Association (NMA ), Prof (Dr) Innocent A O Ujah FNMA, FNAmed, mni led members of the NOC, The Chairman and members of NMA, Plateau State Branch and other major stakeholders to pay him a courtesy call at Government House, Rayfield, Jos earlier on today.

    During the courtesy call, Mr President expressed his appreciation to the Governor for granting the request for the courtesy call which was also a home coming for him, having achieved the zenith of his professional and academic career in Plateau State.

    The President also used the opportunity to introduce members of the NOC to the Governor.

    Furthermore, The President of NMA, commended the Governor for the cordial relationship existing between him and the Medical and Dental Practitioners in the state, which he believed will be strengthened by the courtesy call.

    Mr President also used the opportunity provided by the courtesy call to appreciate the Governor for the tremendous efforts being made by his administration to improve the health indices in Plateau State.

    Some of these achievements highlighted included;
    1. The implementation of CONMESS and CONHESS for Medical Doctors and other health care workers in the state.

    2. The payment of outstanding salary arrears to Doctors and other civil servants.

    3. The completion of all inherited health projects eg Trauma Center, Riyom, General Hospitals in Kwall, Kanke and Mabudi in Langtang South.

    4. Ongoing construction of 6 (six) General Hospitals in the 3 ( three) senatorial districts of the state.

    5. The upgrading of all secondary health facilities and the adoption of electronic health information system for the facilities.

    6. Establishment of the Plateau State Primary Health care Board and the appointment of a Medical Doctor as the pioneer Executive Secretary.

    7. Establishment of the Plateau State Contributory Health Care Management Agency ( PLASCHEMA) and signing into law the bill for the Establishment of the Plateau State Specialist Hospital(PSSH).

    8. Collaborations with NGOs to improve health care delivery and provision of study leave for residency training of Doctors in government employ.

    9. Setting up of 3 (three) COVID-19 testing sites which has enabled the state to be ranked by NCDC as one of those with the highest testing capacity in the country.

    10. Payment of COVID-19 hazard and inducement allowance to Doctors and other healthcare workers as well as the employment of over forty (40) Doctors as well as other health workers in the state civil service.

    The President of NMA also used the opportunity to draw the attention of the Governor to some issues that needed to be addressed to further improve the state health care delivery system. These issues included;

    1. The upgrade of the Plateau State Specialist Hospital through the provision of modern medical equipment and recruitment of Medical Specialists.

    2. Establishment of a College of Medicine at the State University at Bokkos to help improve the state’s health workforce needs.

    3. Sponsorship of indigenes of the state to study medicine.

    4. Domestication and implementation of the Medical Residency Training Act 2017.

    The President of the Nigerian Medical Association further solicited for NMA to be actively involved in Health Sector Policy Decision making in the State.

    The Governor’s support was also solicited for the enforcement of the use of Doctors Stamp and the building of the NMA House in Abuja.

    In conclusion, the President appealed to the Governor to approve the implementation of 100% CONMESS for Doctors in the state.

    He also requested for the Government’s support to build a befitting secretariat for the state branch, reduction in the tax paid by Doctors in the state.

    The President also notified the Governor of the forthcoming NMA ADM/AGC to be hosted in Jos, Plateau state and extended an official invitation to him.

    In his response, The Governor appreciated NMA for the courtesy call and the encomiums showered on him.

    He thanked the NMA President for his invaluable suggestions to improve the healthcare delivery in the state.

    He expressed his willingness to give his support for the hosting of the NMA ADM/AGC in the state as well as his continuous commitment towards the improvement of health care delivery in the state.
