Dr Bala Audu

President

Dr (Prof.) Bala Audu is a highly accomplished Consultant Obstetrician and Gynaecologist with extensive experience and a strong academic background. His career spans several prestigious institutions in Nigeria, where he has held various leadership positions.

Since 1998, he has been a Consultant Obstetrician and Gynaecologist at the University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital, Maiduguri, Nigeria. From 1998 to 2003, he served as the Head of Department at the Federal Teaching Hospital Gombe, Gombe, Nigeria. He then returned to the University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital as the Head of Department from 2004 to 2007, and later served as the Deputy Chairman of the Medical Advisory Committee (Clinicals) from 2007 to 2010.

Dr. Audu has been a Professor of Obstetrics and Gynaecology at the College of Medical Sciences, University of Maiduguri, since 2009. He also held the position of Professor and Provost at the College of Medical Sciences, Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University, Bauchi, Nigeria, from 2017 till 2022.

In addition to his clinical and academic roles, Dr. Audu is actively involved in various professional societies and has held several key positions. He is a Fellow of the National Postgraduate Medical College of Nigeria and has served as a member of the Senate. He is also a member of the Society of Obstetrics and Gynaecology of Nigeria, where he had served as the Honorary Treasurer. He has held leadership positions in the Nigerian Medical Association and is a member of the International Gynaecological Cancer Society, among others.

Dr Audu is a former Vice President University of Maiduguri Medical Students’ Association, former President and life member Association of Resident Doctors’ UMTH, former Chairman NMA Gombe State, former chairman NMA Borno State, former VP1 and Secretary General NMA.

Dr. Audu has received numerous honors and awards for his contributions to the field of Obstetrics and Gynaecology. He is a Chevening Scholar and has received grants from the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation. He has been involved in various research projects focusing on gynaecological oncology, infertility, and maternal mortality.

His administrative and leadership skills are evident from his extensive experience in various roles, including serving as Vice-Chancellor of the Federal University of Health Sciences Azare.

He is married and blessed with children.

Dr. Ushakuma Michael Anenga

2nd President

Dr. Ushakuma Michael Anenga is the second Vice-President of the Nigerian Medical Association (NMA) and an Obstetrician and Gynaecologist/Lecturer at Benue State University/Teaching Hospital, Makurdi.

Dr Anenga completed his medical degree from Benue State University, Makurdi, after which he had residency training in Obstetrics and Gynaecology at Benue State University Teaching Hospital (BSUTH).

He has held various leadership roles, including Treasurer, General Secretary and two-term President of the Association of Resident Doctors (ARD) at BSUTH. He was also the Assistant Secretary-General of the Nigerian Association of Resident Doctors (NARD). In August 2022, he was elected Chairman of NMA Benue State and later became the Chairman of the Forum of NMA State Chairmen nationwide.

Dr. Anenga is a Fellow of both the National Postgraduate Medical College of Nigeria (NPMCN) and West African College of Surgeons (WACS), and a member of the Society of Gynaecologists and Obstetricians of Nigeria (SOGON). He is married with children.

Dr Celestine Ugwoke

National Treasurer

Dr Celestine Chijioke Ugwoke (Dr Niceman) is a consultant radiologist with National orthopedic hospital Enugu; He is the CEO of Nice & Angel LTD, Sharp Bend Hotel and Medical Director Nice diagnostic Clinics. Celestine is a graduate of University of Nigeria Nsukka and the past Chairman of NMA Enugu State, past chairman of NMA South East caucus, Past Chairman NMA Enugu North Zone, Past president of ARD UNTH, past vice president of ARD UNTH, past house officers representative in Parklane and Past Governor of Kenneth Dike Hall, University of Nigeria Enugu Campus. Currently, he is the National Treasurer NMA.

Dr Harrison Omokhua

National Financial Secretary

Dr Harrison Omokhua is a Senior lecturer/consultant, University of Benin/ University of Benin Teaching Hospital. Some of the positions Positions held include, House officers Rep/Assistant club house secretary, PRO, SEC GEN and president of the Association of Residents Doctors, UBTH. Others are first vice president, NARD, Secretary Edo NMA, deputy chairman Edo NMA and chairman Edo NMA. I'm a lover of football.

He is married to Dr Gabriella Ifeoma Omokhua, a consultant Clinical Medical Microbiologist, UBTH and we are blessed with four children.

Dr Mannir Bature

National Publicity Secretary

Dr Mannir Bature is a graduate of Medicine from Usmanu Danfodiyo University Sokoto. He received post graduate training from Bayero University Kano as well as Ahmadu Bello University Zaria. He is a certified Health Economist, Senior Manager with exceptional experience in Health system strengthening and presently working with Federal Medical Centre Gusau as Principal Medical Officer. He led the implementation of several key health interventions while working with international organisations including Fund For Global Health among others. He successfully coordinated the delivery of the Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office (FCDO) –Lafiya Programme COVID-19 support to Zamfara State as COVID 19 Response Coordinator – Zamfara, FCDO – LAFIYA UK Support for Health in Nigeria Programme.

He is the Immediate Past Chairman of NMA Zamfara and served in various capacities in NMA at State and National levels.

He is happily married and blessed with Children.

Dr. Wale Lasisi

Deputy Secretary General

Wale Lasisi is an alumnus of the University of Ilorin, where he graduated in the year 2000 and thereafter had his internship training at the University College Hospital, Ibadan and his mandatory national youth service Corp at the police clinic, Port Harcourt. He had his post graduate residency training at the Obafemi Awolowo University Teaching Hospital complex, Ile-Ife, where he obtained the Fellowship of the West African College of Surgeons in Obstetrics and Gynaecology(2012).

Dr. Lasisi was a past Senate President of the prestigious Ilorin University Medical students association (ILUMSA), he is a past second vice president(2007) and first vice president(2012) of NARD, he equally served as General secretary(2009) and President(2010) of the association of resident doctors OAUTHC, ile -Ife. He is the immediate Past Chairman of the Nigerian Medical Association, Oyo State.

Dr. Lasisi is a plain minded individual who believes in live and let live, hakuna matata (no worries), he sees service as a covenant with the people and his own way of giving back to the society. He abhors dishonest people and always eager to fight oppression. He is happily married with children.

Dr Benjamin Oluwatosin Olowojebutu

1st Vice President

Benjamin is a brilliant, resourceful, self motivated and passionate graduate of the prestigious College of Medicine University of Lagos. He is a detailed physician with postgraduate training in family medicine from the National Postgraduate Medical College of Nigeria with special interest in maternal and child health. He is a skilled surgeon with over 15years experience who has worked successfully in several communities in West Africa. Under his Foundation Benjamin Olowojebutu Foundation (BOF) over 10000 free surgeries has been performed in 17 states in Nigeria for folks suffering from Fibroids Hernias Lipomas and Breast lumps.He is the Medical Director/CEO Twinex Medical Center and also the Executive Director and Lead Surgeon of the BOF(www.bof.org.ng)Love team. He has very great communication skills passionate about improving access to quality health in Africa. Love and Compassion is the core of his life and practice.

He was the Immediate Past Chairman Of Nigerian Medical Association Lagos Zone.

He is Presently the First Vice-President of NIgerian Medical Association.

He was recently Honoured by the Ooni of Ife as the Aare Aremolekun Oodua Agbaye for his passionate work on women all over Nigeria

He is a licensed member of the Medical and Dental Council Of Nigeria (MDCN), Nigeria Medical Association (NMA), Association of Rural Surgeons of Nigeria (ARSON) and Associate Member of Nigeria Institute of Management (NIM) He is a Fellow of Chartered Institute of Public Management of Nigeria (CIPM).

He just concluded his MBA in finance at the University of Lagos Business School.

He is also a Fellow of the Institute of Professional Managers and Administrators of Nigeria (IPMA) He is married and blessed with children.

Dr. Jide Onyekwelu

Immediate Past Secretary General

Dr. Onyekwelu, Jideofor Jasper, popularly known as Dr Jide, is the Medical Director of Obinwanne Hospital and Maternity, Nkpor. He is a medical doctor (MB, BS. UNN, 1982), a Master of Public Health (MPH, NAUTH, 2008), a Family Physician (PGDFM, National Postgraduate Medical College of Nigeria, 2013) and a Biostatistician, (MSc. Biostatistics, NAU, 2016).

He worked briefly as a Medical Officer with Murtala Mohammed Hospital (now Murtala Mohammed Specialist Hospital) Kano after his Housemanship and Youth Service before he established Obinwanne Hospital and Maternity in 1990. He incorporated the hospital in 1997 and is the Medical Director till date.

He is the Editor-in-Chief of Nigerian Journal of General Practice, a medical journal published by the Association of Nigerian Private Medical Practitioners (ANPMP). He is a reviewer for many international scientific journals

Dr Datonye Dennis Alasia

Professor Datonye Dennis Alasia is a dedicated professional with experience in Medical Education and Research, Clinical Medicine, health management and leadership. He holds a Master's in Business Administration (M.B.A) with a Specialization in Health Management, from the Imperial College London, Business School, UK (2015); Fellowship of the West African College of Physicians (FWACP) in Internal Medicine (2008) and Bachelor of Medicine and Surgery (M.B.B.Ch), from the University of Calabar, Nigeria (1998). He also has certificates in Project management, The Open Governance Architecture Framework and various areas of healthcare. He is a professor of Internal Medicine and Honorary Chief Consultant Physician (Internal Medicine) at the University of Port Harcourt College of Health Sciences and Teaching Hospital. He is currently the Editor of the Nigerian Medical Journal and has previously served as Scientific editor-in-chief and editorial board member to leading medical journals in the country and globally. He is also a past Chairman of NMA Rivers state (2016 – 2018) and has numerous honours and awards to his credit.)
