As part of the activities lined up for the just concluded NMA-NEC meeting in Benin City, Edo State, the President of the Nigerian Medical Association (NMA), Prof ( Dr ) Innocent A O Ujah, FNMA, FNAmed,mni on Wednesday, 25th August 2021 paid a courtesy call on the legendary Sir Chief (Dr) Gabriel Osawaru Igbinedion, the Esama of Benin Kingdom and the Grand Commander of the Knights who turns 87 on September 11, 2021.
During the meeting with the iconic philanthropist who had made substantial remarkable contributions to medical education in the country through the Igbinedion University, Okada, Edo State, the NMA President appreciated him for his immense contributions towards the enhancement of health care delivery in the country and support to the association.
He also used the opportunity to intimate and officially invite him to the opening ceremony of the NMA-NEC meeting holding in his domain.
The Esema of Benin in his response, appreciated the NMA President and members of his entourage for the honour done him through the visit.
He expressed his concerns about the incessant strikes and brain drain of Medical personnel in the country.
He also made very useful suggestions on how to overcome the current imbroglio in the Nigerian health sector.
The courtesy visit also included a luncheon and the Exchange of souvenirs.
Those in Mr President’s entourage included National Officers, NEC members, Medical Elders and the Chairman and members of NMA, Edo State branch.
