The President of the Nigerian Medical Association (NMA), Prof (Dr) IAO Ujah FNMA, FNAmed, mni yesterday paid a courtesy call on the Chief Medical Director (CMD) of the Bingham University Teaching Hospital, Jos, Plateau State, Prof Stephen Anzaku.
At the courtesy call, The President appreciated the CMD for warm reception accorded him and his delegation.
He also commended the CMD for the giant strides recorded by the institution in health care delivery especially in the management of Vesico Vaginal Fistula (VVF) and Lassa Fever.
The President, while calling on the CMD to continue to prioritise the welfare of Medical practitioners also called on them to contribute to the growth of the medical profession.
In his response, the CMD thanked the President and members of his entourage for the historic visit and said he was highly honoured for the privilege to host his Teacher and mentor.
The CMD intimated the President and members of his delegation the hospital was established in February, 1959 and has the record of being the first hospital where cases of Lassa Fever were managed in the Nigeria.
He also informed the delegation that the hospital has continued to serve as a referral center for VVF and Lassa fever in the northern part of the country.
The CMD also informed the President that the hospital has recorded a lot of successes in undergraduate training of medical students and postgraduate training of Residents especially in Family Medicine.
The CMD also stated that despite the successes, the hospital was facing challenges like posting of House Officers and called on the President to advocate for missionary and private health institutions to be considered in the central postings of House Officers as it is currently conducted by MDCN.
Accompanying the President for the courtesy call were members of the National Officers Committee (NOC) and The Chairman and members of the Plateau State branch.
