    The President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, His Excellency,Muhammadu Buhari GCFR, yesterday, the 29th of April 2021 declared open the 61st Annual General Conference/Delegates Meeting of the Nigerian Medical Association (NMA) at the Crispan Hotel & Suites, Rayfield, Jos, Plateau State.

    The NMA AGC/DM, which is being hosted for the first time in Jos, Plateau State has as its theme, ‘Nigeria and the Global Health Agenda.’

    The President, who was ably represented by the Honourable Minister of Health, Dr Osagie Ehanire, commended Nigerian Doctors for their commitment to work and their substantial role in the fight against COVID-19.

    He also used the opportunity to condole with the Association on the loss of some of her members while serving to save the lives of other Nigerians.

    Prior to the President’s Speech, delegates and guests were welcomed to the opening ceremony by the Chairman of NMA, Plateau State Branch and Chairman of the Local Organising Committee (LOC), Dr Innocent Emmanuel.

    Following closely was an address by the President of the Nigerian Medical Association (NMA), Prof (Dr) IAO Ujah FNMA, FNAmed, mni.

    The opening remarks by the Chairman of the occasion Her Excellency, Dame Pauline Tallen OFR, Hon Minister of Women Affairs and former Deputy of Governor of Plateau State, focused on the hardwork and dedication to duty of Nigerian Doctors and thanked the Governor of Plateau State for creating a peaceful and conducive environment for the hosting of the conference on the Plateau.

    A keynote address on the theme was presented by the immediate past Minister of Health and former Vice Chancellor of the University of Ibadan, Prof Isaac Folorunsho Adewole, FAS, FNAmed.

    Goodwill messages were presented by the Executive Governor of Plateau State, His Excellency, Rt Hon Barr Simon Bako Lalong; The Honourable Minister of State for Health, Dr Olorunimbe Mamora; The President of the Commonwealth Medical Association (CMA) and Past President of NMA, Dr Osahon Enabulele and The Gbong Gwom Jos, His Majesty, Da (Dr) Elder Jacob Gyang Buba who was ably represented.

    The colourful event also featured inspection of the exhibition booths by the Governor and other Distinguished Guests, cultural displays and scientific presentations.

    In attendance at the epoch-making event were were members of the National Officers Committee (NOC), past Presidents of NMA, NEC members, Heads of Affiliates, The Chairman of the Plateau State branch and other State branch Chairmen, the Honourable Commissioner for Health, Plateau State and members of the State Executive Council.

    Others in attendance included, Chief Medical Directors of Federal Health Institutions, Provosts of Colleges of Health Sciences, ladies and gentlemen of the press and other Distinguished guests.

    The one week conference ends on the 2nd of May, 2021.
