    NMA Meets Labour Minister on Restiveness in the Medical Profession.


    NMA President Prof Innocent A.O Ujah, mni initiated a meeting with the Minister of Labour and Employment Senator Dr Chris N. Ngige today 17th August 2021.The meeting which started at about 6pm lasted for over 3 hours. In attendance were the Secretary General of NMA Dr Philips Ekpe and The NMA National Committee Chairman on Young Doctors Dr Mohammed Askira.

    The discussion Centered on but not limited to the following points:

    1, NARD STRIKE and their demands.

    2,Suspended impending MDCAN Strike.

    3, Hazard Allowance

    4, MEDSABAMS Salary Structure.

    On House Officers’ removal from the Scheme of Service, despite pressure that the Circular be withdrawn as demanded by NMA, The Minister read out the Adjusted Circular from the HCSOF pointing out the relevant paragraphs that said the House Officers’ Salary remains on the Wage Structure as it is captured in CONMESS. He pointed out that the Head of Service cannot single handedly reverse the Circular and the request for a reversal should be routed through the Ministry of Health to the National Council on Establishment to the office of HOSCF for consideration at its meeting in September 2021.

    Hazard Allowance: it was agreed that negotiations should resume ASAP and expedited to bring it to conclusion.

    GIFMIS migration to IPPIS: Minister explained the reasons why the process was stalled ( produced evidence) but stated that the migration and payment of Arrears for all Doctors would commence in ernest before the week runs out.

    Shortfall of 2014, 2015 and 2016:
    It was stated that payment should start as has been compiled by the Budget Office and that CMDs should submit their list ASAP.

    Medical Residency Training Fund

    Director of IPPIS was called to start paying those who have submitted their list with the individual IPPIS number and that the CMDs that did not include individual IPPIS number should be asked to do so. The Minister showed a letter of evidence of action on MRTF and that it was still being loaded by the Ministry of Finance for payment which should start before the Week runs out.

    MDCAN Suspended Impending Strike.:
    Minister called the IPPIS Director in line with previous discussion and directive to reverse to status quo on CONMESS, and that this should be reflected in August Salary while Arrears would follow subsequently.

    The Minister agreed to cancel his engagement on Friday 20th August 2021 to hold a meeting with NMA

    Mr President appreciated the Minister and exchanged pleasantries on the out come of the meeting.

    The Meeting ended at 9:10pm.
