    LAGOS STATE DONATES PLOT OF LAND FOR BUILDING OF A SECRETARIAT FOR NMA,MEDICAL GUILD AND MWAN.

    The Lagos State Government has donated a plot of land for the building of a permanent secretariat for the Lagos State branch of the Nigerian Medical Association (NMA), Medical Guild and MWAN.

    The donation was one of the numerous benefits derived from the courtesy call by the President of the Nigerian Medical Association, Prof (Dr) Innocent A O Ujah, FNMA, FNAmed, mni on the The Executive Governor of Lagos State, His Excellency, Mr Babajide Sanwo-Olu at the State House,Marina,Lagos State.

    The President used the opportunity provided by the advocacy visit to appreciate the Governor and members of his Executive Council for the giant strides in the health sector recorded under his leadership, particularly the critical role played by the Lagos State Government in combating the COVID-19 pandemic.

    The Governor was also commended for the full implementation of the residency training act at LASUTH and strengthening of the primary health care delivery system in the state amongst others.

    The attention of His Excellency was also drawn to some challenges militating against qualitative health care delivery in the like demotion/stagnation of Medical Doctors, brain drain quackery. The fact that the Lagos State branch which has 40% of Medical and Dental Practitioners practicing in Nigeria does not have a permanent Secretariat was also brought to the front burner during the visit by the NMA President.

    Also, the support of the Governor was solicited for the NMA Secretariat building project in Abuja and the hosting of the NMA Doctors ‘ Games by the Lagos State zone in the nearest future.

    In his response, the Governor appreciated NMA for the courtesy call and the honour done him through the visit.

    He further commended the President of the association for the great leadership and members of the association for the commitment and high level of professionalism exhibited, especially in combating the COVID-19 pandemic.

    Furthermore, the Governor highlighted some of the efforts of the Lagos State Government geared towards enhancing health care delivery in the state, some of which included; increased budgetary allocation to health, construction of oxygen plants , building of quarters for Medical Doctors, renovation and construction of new health facilities in the state to mention but a few.

    The Governor said he had noted the challenges in the Lagos State health sector raised by the President and promised that his government will take the right steps towards addressing them.

    Highpoints of the visit were the donation of a plot of land for the building of the Secretariat for the Lagos State branch of NMA, Medical Guild and MWAN and the exchange of souvenirs between the Governor and the President of NMA.

    Present at the august visit were members of the National Officers Committee (NOC),a past President, Prof Oluwole Atoyebi, past Secretaries General, Chief Dr Bayo Aderiye and Dr Kayode Akinlade, members of the Lagos State branch, led by the Chairman, Dr Tunji Adenekan.
